Rob started as a floor covering ‘helper’ in 1974. He completed the Armstrong
Residential School of Flooring in 1976, following that with the Armstrong
Commercial School of Flooring in 1978.
Rob installed for many flooring stores over the years, and continued his education including certification in many flooring applications. Taking his installation experience (and worn out knees) with him, he moved to the retail end of the business, selling floor covering including carpeting, vinyl, tile, hardwood and oriental rugs. He joined the WJ Grosvenor team in 1996, and has worked in many positions over the years including outside sales, branch coverage, and now calls the Auburn branch his ‘home’.
Rob and his lovely wife of 32 years (yup she was sitting right next to me as I wrote this) like to spend their spare time taking care of their 2 beautiful Granddaughters and taking their boat, the “Driving Miss Crazy” out on Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagogchaubunagungamaug.
Dan came to W.J. Grosvenor's Billerica branch in April, 2008, after working
for SILPRO for more than 14 years as a foreman. While at SILPRO he attend
SILPRO School, learning a considerable amount of information regarding
the SILPRO line of products. At W.J. Grosvenor, Dan's career started in
the warehouse, where he quickly learned the logistics of the warehouse
and what was needed to become a branch manager.
Dan earned his Commercial Driver's License (CDL) through Grosvenor, backing up other drivers and filling in at other branches as needed. Today, Dan is a customer-oriented Branch Manager, willing to do what it takes to make his customer's happy. Dan is also an avid outdoors man, camping and playing horse shoes whenever he gets the opportunity!
Butch had been working for a roofing company and was tired of falling
behind on his bills every winter. In the spring of 1985 he learned that
W.J. Grosvenor's was looking for a driver, so he came in to talk with Bernie
McHugh, and started working for Grosvenor's the following week. He began
driving our company truck out of our original warehouse in Medford, getting
lost in Boston became part of his normal routine. At that time, the Billerica,
Medford, and Brockton branches were well established and the Manchester
branch had only opened the year before. As time passed and Grosvenor's
expanded with new branches and moved the offices and warehouse to a new
combined Billerica branch and headquarters. In 1999, Butch decided he wanted
a change and gave sales a shot first assisting in Medford and becoming
the branch manager of Manchester in 2001.
In his spare time, Butch enjoys whitewater kayaking, hiking, and rock climbing throughout the northeast. He looks forward to building a post and beam log cabin in the woods of Vermont and trying to talk Grosvenor's into opening up a location just down the road a piece. Anyone reading this is encouraged to mention how great it would be to have a store in Barre, VT.
Victor got his start working for Tom Rich's Flooring managing their warehouse. His position evolved into Warehouse Manager/Truck Driver/Sales/Office worker/etc. basically whatever needed to be done Victor would do it. Tom Rich eventually was sold to Classic Floors and Victor continued working for Classic for about a year until he heard Grosvenor's was looking for a new branch manager, he was reluctant to apply because he didn't feel he had the experience necessary but Sal saw something in him and now over 3 1/2 years later W.J. Grosvenor's Medford branch continues to thrive and with Victor's ability to speak both English and Spanish fluently he has been a great fit for the Medford Branch.
Jay has over 27 years experience is the floor covering world. He began
working for a friends father in Colorado back in 1980 working mostly in
high end homes. He spent 5 years learning the ropes and absorbing as much
information as possible. He went out on his own for a few years until he
got involved in commercial flooring and took on a partner and with 6 employee's
begain working in banks and office buildings. He has certifications from
CRS and Armstrong but like most there is no substitute for hands on training.
In 1993 he decided to try a new direction and he got involved in custom rug making. He moved to Maine in 2000 after spending summer vacations there since the mid-80's. He still makes custom rugs out of his home shop in Gorham, ME. In March 2004 Jay joined Grosvenor's as the Portland branch manager and enjoy's dealing with all the people he works with, from customers to vendors and he says "It is truly the best job I have ever had working here at W.J.Grosvenor's. There is never a dull moment working here."
Before he got his start in the flooring industry, Paul was employed as a diesel mechanic for Greyhound Bus Lines. Some 20 years ago he began as an installer in Hingham, MA working for TC Installations and later as a sub contractor for Baystate Flooring, Nationwide Flooring, and Hancock Paint. He eventually became a branch manager for Carpet Products until he joined Grosvenor in 1996. Paul enjoys automotive restoration, welding, playing guitar, and spending time with his two children. He listens to all types of music from Classical to Blues and Metal. He will not allow us to take his picture with our "voodoo camera's"....whatever that means.
Mike comes to us from Harry's Carpet One Floor & Home. Since 1989, when he first started in the warehouse at Harry's, Mike has worked closely with installers, learning the in's and out's of the trade. Mike's other positions at Harry's involved purchasing and sales. When Mike is not helping flooring installation customers, he enjoys, outdoor sports, good food and drinks, and great conversations with family and friends!
Before working at WJG Mike was a member of Boston floor covers local 2168 . He has been working in the flooring business since 1980. Mike is also certified in many different phases of the flooring industry and has worked with most of the products we sell at WJG . On the weekend he enjoys golfing and camping with his wife and kids.
